Tom graduated from the North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2002. He spent more than twenty years of his career in the television industry and is a two-time EMMY award-winner. In addition, Tom holds an N.C. Real Estate Broker license and has more than ten years of commercial property management experience. Tom has practiced traditional family law in Watauga, Avery, and Mitchell Counties and represents the Department of Social Services in Yancy County. Tom is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the North Carolina Bar Association (Dispute Resolution Section) and, the Banner Elk Tourism Development Authority. He was the former President of the Banner Elk Kiwanis and former President of the Board of Directors of ACADA (Avery Citizens Against Domestic Abuse). Tom and his wife, Jo-Ann, live in Banner Elk with their two dogs, Archie and Scooter.

Britt graduated from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2003. She began her legal career with the District Attorneys' office. She served for 11 years, including time spent as Chief Prosecutor for the 24th District Attorney’s office, prosecuting homicide cases in Watauga, Avery, Mitchell, Yancey, and Madison Counties. In 2014 Britt brought her prosecutorial experience and trial experience to defend those with criminal charges, handling all criminal cases in Watauga and Avery County District and Superior Court. Britt uses her knowledge and passion for litigation to work on behalf of her clients through the entire legal process from an indictment, pre- and post-trial hearings, jury selection, and litigation to sentencing. Britt and her husband John, live in Boone with their two children – Lilly and Reed.
